Saturday Safaris
Saturday Safaris are offered on Saturday
mornings in November, January or February, and March. These programs
are a great way to spend
Saturday mornings! They are designed for families and groups of all
sizes and shapes. The only requirement is that there is an adult
responsible for all children. Here's what we have
planned:
Time:
9:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m (additional maple session on Mar. 6th, 1-3:30pm)
Place: Environmental Education Center
at Camp Lutherlyn
Cost: $4.00 per person (children 4 and
under are free). Payment will be collected at the event.This
includes the program, snacks, and
beverages.

February 2, 2002: Outdoor and Survival Skills
Learn how to prepare for outdoor adventures and what
survival skills are essential. Build a shelter with natural
materials from the forest. Practice your wilderness fire-building
technique. Discover ways to get water and food in the woods. Improve
your knot-tying ability. Wear very warm clothing and boots, as we
will be outdoors for a minimum of two hours. (Registration deadline:
January 19)
March 2, 2002: Maple Syrup Time
Take part
in a time-honored tradition as we turn maple sap into syrup. This
Saturday Safari features winter tree identification, tapping a maple
tree, collecting sap, and observing the evaporation process. Dress
to be outside. There will be a morning session from 9:30- 12:00 and
an afternoon session from 1-3:30. Please register for one session
only. (Registration deadline: February 23)
November 23, 2002: Birdhouse/Birdfeeder Building
and Bird Observation
This indoor/outdoor activity will
involve assembling birdfeeders or bluebird houses and observing
birds at our specially designed outdoor feeders. We will discuss how
to attract bluebirds and other cavity nesters, as well as placement
and maintenance of your birdhouse. We will also discuss techniques
for attracting birds to your feeders. You will need warm clothes to
observe birds at our "Jughead" and "Cy" birdfeeders. There is an
extra fee of $8.00 per bird house/feeder for materials. Please bring
a hammer. (Registration deadline: November 7)
AN EXTENDED SAFARI!
November 2-3, 2002: Archaeology Retreat Weekend
for Adults
This retreat will allow plenty of time for
excavation and artifact collection at Lutherlyn archaeological site,
plus information sessions with a local archaeologist. Guests will
stay overnight in the cabins and meals will be provided. This
program will be limited to Adults Only. Arrive Saturday @
9:00 am and depart Sunday @ 1:00 pm. (Registration deadline: October

information.**
